We have received a request from a PhD student in the Institute of Infrastructure and Environment at the University of Edinburgh. Their research looks at the potential for long-term monitoring of civil structures to provide feedback to engineers on the suitability of their design assumptions and how future designs could be improved. They are currently running a survey to understand perceptions of uncertainty in civil & structural engineering and whether this could be reduced by monitoring existing structures. They are keen to gather input from engineers from a wide range of practices, backgrounds and specialities to inform the research. The survey takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete and is available on this link.
